Craft Cocktails at Dewey Destin’s Navarre

March 19, 2023

Looking for super casual, sand still on your feet, type of dining? Welcome to Dewey Destin’s Navarre! This little piece of paradise is located in the heart of Navarre, right on the Santa Rosa Sound. They are open 7 days a week and serve both lunch and dinner. You order at the counter and pick your own seat! They provide both indoor and outdoor dining and they are pet friendly if you choose the outdoor seating area! Dewey Destin’s Navarre is actually one of 3 locations. Dewey Destin (yes, very much a real person) is actually the great, great grandson of the founder of Destin, Leonard Destin. Fun story to read up on if you’re a history buff. You can find the full story on their website, www.destinseafood.com. You can also check out their menu and other locations.

Now if you’re here the low down on the drink menu, stick with me. Although the restaurant itself vibes lowkey and casual, the drink menu packs a punch! We’re talking craft beers and signature cocktails. When you enter, you’ll find a walk-up bar where you can order and head out to the sand or you can pull up a stool and enjoy your drink of choice in the air conditioning!

But if you’re like me, you want the sand on your feet and that warm Florida breeze on your skin! If that’s the case, grab your craft cocktail and head out back to their outdoor dining! You’ll find picnic tables to choose from as well as several chairs set-up, all overlooking the Santa Rosa Sound. And yes, all outdoor seating is situated right on the pearly white sands you’ll find along the Emerald Coast! You can also check out their neighbors, Navarre Family Water Sports, that offer pontoon and jet ski rentals, after-dark glow kayaking, and much more! You can find their full list of activities at www.nwfllc.com.

Now let’s talk drinks. You’ll usually find around 16 different craft beers to choose from. They typically have about 8 of these on tap. And of course, they also offer a full bar but you’re not going to find a Bahama Mama on this craft cocktail menu. All of their cocktails are handcrafted from fresh squeezed citrus and house-made simple syrups. You’ll find drinks like the Tokyo Fog: Gin, Lavender, house citrus, and matcha green tea coconut foam. House Shandy: Elderflower liqueur, simple syrup, and citrus topped with locally brewed Destin Brewery Destin Blonde Ale. The Pollinator: Vodka, honey, rosemary, and lemon.

I went with the Blackberry Smash. This consisted of 4 Roses Yellow Label Bourbon, fresh blackberries, simple syrup, and house citrus. To be honest, I am not typically a bourbon girl but was feeling a little feisty and this did not disappoint! The blackberries and citrus definitely took the edge off. And really, everything tastes like paradise when you’re sitting outside, overlooking the water.

Dewey Destin’s Navarre is a great spot if you want a craft cocktail with a low-key, outdoor water view. You can even catch the sun setting right under the Navarre Bridge if you time it right. Go check them out and let me know what you think!

Mojito Mash-Ups at The Grand Marlin of Pensacola Beach

March 1, 2023

Welcome to the Grand Marlin of Pensacola Beach! Situated right on the Santa Rosa Sound, this indoor/outdoor restaurant has it all; beautiful water views, delicious drinks, and an incredible food menu. They serve lunch and dinner 7 days a week. And let’s not forget everyone’s favorite, BRUNCH, which is served Sunday from 9am-2pm. They have indoor seating which is a bit more upscale. But if you are looking for a casual, beach vibe, they’re patio seating is where you want to be. This is also where you will find their outdoor bar, The North Drop Bar, serving up some of Pensacola Beach’s best cocktails! During Spring/Summer season, this is completely open air. During the chilly season, they do have heaters and plastic coverings over the window opening, so you really can’t go wrong year-round!

The entire restaurant and bar area are on the 2nd floor!

Now let’s get to the good stuff, the drink menu! One word, MOJITOS! Mojitos just taste like a beach vacation! Some bars may mix up some rum, mint, and club soda, throw a straw in it and call it a day. NOT The Grand Marlin. We’re talking fresh fruit that has been perfectly muddled into a magical mojito. And not just any mojito. Their menu boasts 3 signature mojito mash-ups; the Strawberry Mango Mojito, the Mandarin Mango Mojito, and the Chipotle Pineapple Mojito. While the strawberry mango was my personal favorite, all 3 will have your ordering a second! If mojitos aren’t your jam, you will surely find something else that strikes your fancy from their signature martini list or their island cocktails line-up! They also offer an 80-plus bottle wine list!

Strawberry Mango Mojito – Cruzan Mango Rum, limes, mint, strawberries, mango syrup, club sods
Mango Mandarin Mojito – Cruzan Mango Rum, limes, fresh mint, mandarin oranges, club soda
Chipotle Pineapple Mojito – Cruzan Pineapple Rum, chipotle pineapple syrup, limes, mint, club soda

Let’s talk about where to sit! You really can’t go wrong with anywhere outdoors! All tables will give you a partial to full view of the Santa Rosa Sound. But if you have time to make a reservation (or time to wait if it’s busy) request a table closest to the water! You won’t be disappointed! They also have a steel drum performer during brunch! Unfortunately, you will not have water views with the indoor seating. I do recommend a reservation, as wait times can be long. You can call them directly or book through Open Table.

You can also choose to sit at the North Drop Bar for open seating or just grab a cocktail while you wait for your table!

The Grand Marlin is a great choice to stop in for a drink or stay for a while and sample the menu before heading towards the beach! Their menu has something for everyone. Pensacola Beach has so much to offer from activities for the kids to beach bars and restaurants, and of course the white sandy beaches everyone comes for! Enjoy!
